WHAT IS JUVEDERM ULTRA (24HV)?

The actual name is Juvederm 24HV, but the product has acquired the name of Juvederm Ultra in the USA.  It is made of non-animal substance known as Hyaluronic acid.  Now, where do we get this hyaluronic acid?  Well, it is a naturally-occurring substance found within all living organisms.  In fact, it exists throughout the living body!  The molecule is greatly incompatible and is extracted via biosynthesis.  The result is a transparent, homogeneous and viscoelastic gel.  And this is what we use as a beauty aid.  The best part is that this substance requires no prior testing.

HOW DOES JUVEDERM ULTRA (24HV) WORK?

The reason why hyaluronic acid is found everywhere within the living body is because it occupies the spaces between collagen and elastin fibers in the skin.  That is why the skin remains elastic in nature.  Hyaluronic acid is also responsible for the shape of the eyes, the volume of the skin, and the lubrication of joints.  During the process of aging, these layers of natural support are reduced, or even lost sometimes.

Now, when Juvederm Ultra is administered to the skin, it does the job of replenishment, filling the missing gaps with hyaluronic acid.  The skin therefore gets re-hydrated, as well as its fill of essential nutrients.  With the gradual re-absorption of hyaluronic acid within the body, the individual can see medium-depth wrinkles disappearing.  These wrinkles are prominently found at the lip augmentation, nasolabial folds, glabellar lines, mild-to-moderate nasal furrows, forehead and cheeks.

OF NOTE—

The after-effects are sustained for a long time, after the administration of Juvederm Ultra Plus, but all good things do not last.  In time, the product dissolves within the skin, making it necessary to have a follow-up treatment.  Of course, this depends on you and your desire to maintain the earlier results.

MANUFACTURER’S SPECIFICATIONS:

(1)  Immediately after your Juvederm Ultra treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, tenderness or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary, and generally disappears in a few days.

(2)  During the first 48 hours after your treatment, you will be asked not to massage or rub the treated area.

(3)  If you have had a lip enhancement, avoid puckering your lips for the first two days after the treatment.

(4)  Until the actual swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. in a solarium or by sunbathing), or to extreme cold.

(5)  The safety and effectiveness of this treatment in areas other than facial wrinkles and folds (such as lips) have not been established in controlled clinical studies.

(6)  Do not go in for this therapy, if you have severe allergies marked by a history of anaphylaxis or presence of multiple severe allergies, or you have a history of allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins.

(7)  Patients who are using substances that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, as with any injection, may experience increased bruising or bleeding at the injection site. You should inform your healthcare professional before treatment if you are using these types of substances.

(8)  If laser treatment, chemical peeling, or any other procedure based on active dermal response is considered after treatment with this cosmetic injection, there is a possible risk of an inflammatory reaction at the treatment site.

(9)  This should be used with caution in patients on immunosuppressive therapy, or therapy used to decrease the body's immune response, as there may be an increased risk of infection.

(10)  The safety of Juvederm injections for use during pregnancy, in breastfeeding females, or in patients under 18 years has not been established.

(11)  The safety of Juvederm in patients with a history of excessive scarring (eg, hypertrophic scarring and keloid formations) and pigmentation disorders has not been studied.
